The Director of Product Marketing for Professional Services, Literacy, is responsible for leading marketing for the HMH portfolio of professional learning offerings for Literacy (curriculum-aligned and agnostic) in order to achieve revenue objectives for HMH Professional Services. The Director's ultimate goal is to convert mind share into market share, utilizing strategies that capture customer interest, transform interest into engagement, and convert engagement into buying behaviors. The candidate will have experience as a marketing professional in the K-12 education space, but will also have a deep knowledge of the category of professional learning for K-12 teachers and leaders. Proficiency with online professional learning and micro-learning is preferred.

 

The successful candidate for this position will utilize creative tactics across marketing channels, and will have strong experience developing marketing, selling tools, and training to drive sales through the Rep channel as well as experience formulating and executing successful content marketing and digital marketing campaigns to drive behavior through the customer journey. The candidate will be adept at developing creative engaging messaging that speaks directly to the market, and tailoring messaging to key market segments. The candidate will be experienced at formulating strategies and tactics that drive lead generation.

 

This role is highly collaborative with multiple internal constituencies and stakeholders. The successful candidate will have experience working with product management, sales, services delivery, product development, and marketing.  The Product Marketing Director is a leader on the Services Marketing team, and an experienced and effective leader of people. S/He generously supports all levels of product marketing managers on his or her team through ongoing dialogue, skillful questioning that drives thoughtful, strategic planning, by offering frequent constructive feedback, and by establishing a system of accountability that helps ensure success in reaching established goals.

Branding and Positioning

Owns the marketing and branding for the continuum of Literacy services in the HMH Services portfolio, serving as their ambassador and driver to both internal (sales) and external customers. Works to create logical relationship between Literacy services across the continuum of professional learning so that customers experience a seamless connection between program services and agnostic services.

 

Marketing Strategy

Works with his or her team to develop innovative marketing strategy and campaigns to drive lead generation and awareness. Formulates creative, customer-centric messaging across channels, including advertising, website, eCampaigns, social media, online and print collateral, thought leadership content, and conferences.

 

Data-Driven Marketing

Continually uses market research, segmentation analysis, and competitive analysis to ensure up-to-date customer and market knowledge as well as to identify whitespace opportunities. Formulates data-informed campaign goals and KPIs that are intrinsic to strategic marketing practices. Uses data to make well-informed strategic and tactical decisions; measures constantly in order to improve results.

 

Sales Enablement and Support

Is responsible for supporting Sales Reps with the right knowledge and tools to successfully achieve revenue goals. Represents Literacy services marketing when collaborating with or creating training for cross-functional teams, especially sales. Partners with Product Management & Strategy in responding to Sales’ needs. Partners with Sales Enablement to create training and effective selling tools.

 

Direction of Marketing Execution

Ensures quality for all marketing campaigns, providing direction to marketing managers and to creative staff. Serves as strategic lead for launching new services, and takes the lead in driving them forward. Ensures customer-centric, creative messaging that is successful in compelling customers to look more closely and engage in buying behaviors.

 

People Management

Education and Relevant Experience

 

Required:  BS/BA in related disciplines with 7+ years of related industry or functional experience.

 

Preferred:  

  • Former educator with management experience and experience marketing professional learning for K12 educators
  • 7+ years’ experience in educational or similar publishing, within marketing, sales, editorial, consulting, or product management roles. Experience creating and marketing professional learning for educators.
  • 3+ years’ classroom experience as a K-12 Literacy educator.

 

Knowledge and Skills

 

Required:

  • 7+ years’ experience in professional learning within marketing, sales, development, or product management roles. Experience creating and marketing professional learning for educators.
  • Experience developing marketing creatives including print collateral, web sites, digital marketing campaigns.
  • Exemplary oral and written communication skills, including the ability to persuasively present programs to multiple internal and external stakeholders.
  • Self-starter: Driven to achieving goals, anticipates needs and takes ownership, exhibits deep understanding of the pedagogy, needs, and challenges faced by the customer, and is able to translate this understanding into customer-centric marketing strategies and deliverables.
  • Independent thinker with leadership skills grounded in diplomatic communication and solid collaboration skills.
  • Creative, a problem solver who is flexible and solutions-oriented
  • Able to balance the big picture and attention to detail
  • Proficient in Word, Excel and Powerpoint.

 

Preferred:

  • Experience in creating and executing innovative marketing campaigns through multiple channels that drive demand, including print, digital, and educational.
  • Proficiency with Photoshop, Camtasia Studio, and Adobe Premiere a plus.
  • Experience using tools for digital and content marketing and sales such as Hubspot, Eloqua, Marketo, Salesforce and Google Analytics.
  • Experience managing a team in a fast-paced environment.

 

Physical Requirements

  • 20-30% travel, possibly more during intensive periods of training,  planning meetings, or campaigns. 
  • Must be able to collaborate with colleagues via face to face, conference calls, and online meetings.
  • Might be in a stationary position for a considerable time (sitting and/or standing) for 4+ hours.
  • The person in this position needs to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
