Corporate Social Responsibility Senior Associate

 

Overview

This full-time role will serve as the Senior Associate for HMH’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) team. This role will focus on helping to execute the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility efforts including employee volunteerism, in-kind investments, nonprofit partnerships, sustainability and diversity activities.

 

Working with the CSR Senior Manager and the Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs, the Senior Associate will provide broad operational and strategic support for the CSR team. One key responsibility will include the management and execution of HMH’s in-kind investments program, through which HMH has two objectives: 1) Support our mission and CSR strategy by bringing high-value resources to our partners, and 2) Maximize our educational impact by leveraging HMH content in high-need communities. HMH has donated approximately 14 million books in the past six years as part of this program, and the Senior Associate will help to grow the scope of in-kind partnerships in the years ahead.

 

The Senior Associate will also help to manage and grow HMH’s signature employee volunteerism program, HMH Classroom Corps. They will work closely with HMH employees across the country and the globe to help support the Company’s Community Investment Councils, through which local employee groups utilize CSR funding, training and resources to help engage their colleagues in volunteer opportunities and charitable campaigns that improve the communities where they live and work. The Senior Associate will also help drive HMH’s sustainability work forward in 2019 and beyond.  

 

Responsibilities

  • Help maintain all of HMH’s Corporate Social Responsibility programs company-wide
  • Work to grow HMH’s signature employee volunteerism program, HMH Classroom Corps –which deploys HMH employees into classrooms across the country
  • Manage HMH’s in-kind book donation process, serving as the main liaison with HMH’s Global Supply Chain team and partners across the business and reporting/tracking all donations. 
  • Review employee matching gift requests on a daily basis – determine eligibility and conduct employee/donor follow up as needed
  • Together with the CSR Senior Manager, support HMH’s 12 Community Investment Councils (CICs) – employee run volunteer teams – assisting with volunteer projects and troubleshooting issues as they arise
  • Help with annual training of CICs, including onboarding new members, maintaining their budgets and providing support as needed
  • Together with the CSR Senior Manager, plan and execute global annual HMH Volunteer Week
  • Assist with HMH’s sustainability efforts, including HMH paper policy – help expand and grow sustainability program in 2019 and beyond
  • Conduct reporting of CSR programs and employee engagement through our HMH Cares platform
  • Assist with the reporting, writing and design of CSR Annual Report  
  • Help with oversight of the HMH Employee Relief Fund. Help to promote the Fund and encourage employee donations.

 

Job Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize responsibilities while working on multiple projects simultaneously 
  • Strong writing and research skills
  • Strong communications skills
  • Ability to interact comfortably with wide array of internal and external stakeholders at a variety of seniority levels
  • Enthusiasm for Corporate Social Responsibility and making an impact in local communities
  • Strong budget and reporting skills required
  • Significant comfort with Excel (including functions required to manage very large spreadsheets – e.g., vlookup, equations, if statements, etc.)
  • Very strong attention to detail
  • Comfortable structuring, executing and managing processes
  • Ability to plan and lead volunteer projects, engagement campaigns and special events
  • Experience in both the non- and for-profit sectors a plus
  • Volunteer management or committee/council management or experience also helpful

 

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field
  • 3+ years of professional work experience, with at least 2 years in Corporate Social Responsibility, communications, employee engagement, or a related field
  • Experience in CSR-related role, preferably including prior work in nonprofit field, corporate affairs, human resources, or relevant experience preferred

 

Physical Requirements

  • Might be in a stationary position for a considerable time (sitting and/or standing).
  • The person in this position needs to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
  • Must be able to collaborate with colleagues via face to face, conference calls, and online meetings.
  • Minimal travel may be required (less than 10% of role)
