The Opportunity - Software Developer


As a Developer, Digital Production & Strategy, you will be responsible for supporting digital content development and production with vendor partner teams and internal teams. As a developer you will contribute to the designing, creation, documenting, supporting and implementing of digital learning content on a production scale. This requires strong technical and communication skills that can be shared with vendor teams   

You will bring a strong technical web and mobile background with the ability to deliver solutions that work across numerous platforms using proven capabilities in coding, with solid problem-solving skills with the ability to communicate, enthusiastically, clearly and concisely to other technical and non-technical people within the larger HMH teams.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Work with vendor teams sharing knowledge and development best practices and overseeing tasks and deliverables
  • Work collaboratively within a cross-functional, agile development team to solve problems, deliver incrementally, transfer knowledge and contribute to overall product architecture
  • Contribute to the technical delivery of component design, development and maintenance
  • Adopt an Operational Excellence approach to continuous improvement - test, analyse data and improve constantly
  • Understand HMH goals around quality and Engineering discipline, participate in code reviews at the team level
  • Communicate progress clearly and concisely to the development team



Educational Qualifications/Certifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or Multimedia, or comparable industry experience



  • 2+ years software development experience and a bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field is preferred
  • Proven front end proficiency in developing Web Applications in JavaScript, HTML5 and CSS3
  • Strong appreciation of User Experience (UX) best practice
  • Proven proficiency working with NodeJS and popular JavaScript frameworks
  • Knowledge of modern agile software development methodologies
  • Experience working with an Agile team on a large project(s)
  • A solid understanding of the software development lifecycle and tools including Source Control, Rapid Prototyping, Continuous Integration
  • Skilled in delivering quality products using latest web technologies with an ability to be productive in a wide range of environments, and comfortable adapting to unfamiliar tools
  • Likes to turn ideas into code, and making that code usable by your teammates, and the company at scale
  • Aware of Accessibility, Internationalization and Security criteria for modern Web development and best practices
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with fluency in English essential

• Might be in a stationary position for a considerable time (sitting and/or standing).
• The person in this position needs to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
• Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
• Must be able to collaborate with colleagues via face to face, conference calls, and online meetings.
