As part of the internal development team of Professional Learning University (PLU), the Instructional Designer develops and delivers training aligned to HMH’s development framework and functional area accountabilities; Candidates apply their skills in interactive and graphic design to create training in support of increasing the knowledge, skill, and performance of HMH team members who design, develop and promote HMH content solutions.


This role requires experience in instructional design, e-learning, adult learning principles, training evaluation and validation, and learning platforms, with a particular focus on user interface, interactive and graphic design, and video production.


  • 3-5 years’ experience in a development group, with demonstrated ability to implement high-impact management and professional development initiatives for a multinational organization.
  • Experience with developing user-interface designs, web-based training, and other multimedia products
  • Experience with design packages, including Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Premier
  • Experience with business tools, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Experience using e-learning tools, such as Captivate, Camtasia, and Articulate
  • General knowledge of LMS and Content Management systems
  • Ability to quickly establish credibility and effective working relationships with all levels of staff, including senior management.
  • Ability to function as a creative self-starter and to work independently
  • Understanding of human computer factors and interface design.
  • BS/BA in Instructional Design or equivalent education and experience preferred.



• Might be in a stationary position for a considerable time (sitting and/or standing).

• The person in this position needs to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.

• Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.

• Must be able to collaborate with colleagues via face to face, conference calls, and online meetings.
