The UX Team at HMHCO, part of Learning Platform Management (LPM), focuses on building an intuitive digital experience for teachers, students and administrators in and out of the classroom. We work to simplify and delight teachers and administrators while helping students to achieve success with the HMHCO product lines.

We are looking for a Designer who is by heart an information architect and Living Style Guide Designer (LSGD). You really enjoy white boarding and working with different stakeholders and product owners to discover the user story, user-flow and low-fi wireframes. You understand technical details and understand development constraints and can help the engineering team with writing functional specifications.  You would prefer to work with a Living Style Guide and make your own CSS updates than waiting for coders to implement them for you. You work well with other LSGD on evolving the system rather than reinventing it.

You will be responsible for working independently with the stakeholder, product owners, developers on defining and ideating on new features for our current software platform. You will be working under the supervision of a UX Lead who will help you to build upon your research, design and management chops.  Your role does report to the UX Director.

  • You enjoy working with a multi-functional team of UX researchers, product owners and the engineering team and don’t get discouraged easily when people do not agree immediately.  Instead, you think out of the box to find ways to gain consent and assert the relevance of UX into the team.
  • You believe in data-driven design. “I have a hunch” is not a part of your vocabulary.
  • You are not discouraged by development frameworks and libraries but you see it as a challenge to build on together with the developers.

  • Experience in creating UX deliverables including customer, user journeys and user flows, wireframes and prototypes and any other necessary documents for clear communication of the UX vision and solution.
  • Ensure appropriate UX methodologies and design best practices persist on projects – so that design decisions result in optimal end-user experiences and outcomes.

  • A solid User-Centered Design approach to solving creative challenges. Your portfolio shows examples of how you integrated user research, consumer & user journeys, to develop enterprise system features and/or smaller campaign sites.
  • A strong collaborator across diverse groups, including Product Owners, Engineers, other stakeholders and team members.
  • Have excellent written, verbal and room management communication skills: the right candidate must be able to communicate in writing and/or present in person, strategic design concepts and creative vision – in any team or stakeholder setting – with passion and confidence.
