Overall Objective and description:  As the Director of Program Management you will provide oversight of multiple projects and focus on capacity and prioritization to keep teams on task while improving the organization’s intake process and efficiency. You will have a team of project managers/scrum masters that are also working on multiple projects. You will be focused on keeping teams on task and working closely with authors, product managers, product owners project managers, sales staff and marketing.  You will have the responsibility to mentor staff on project management best practices that include setting standards for documentation, schedules, program roll ups, and implementing Agile/Scrum methodology.  This role requires leadership and someone to be extremely organized while utilizing strong personal skills to navigate challenging moments during projects.  

 

 

Position Responsibilities:  

  • Manage a team of project managers 

  • Coordinate internal and external resources throughout the execution of each project  

  • Ensure all scrum ceremonies run well including planning sessions, standups, retrospectives, grooming sessions, and demos  

  • Assist in the definition of project scope, user story development, involving all business and IT stakeholders while ensuring technical feasibility  

  • Develop a detailed sprints, releases, and communications  

  • Manage changes to the sprint scope whenever necessary 

  • Ensure project management best practices are met 

  • Rolls up digital initiatives for an executive view to assist with prioritization, status and health of projects 

  • Recommend and implement project governance for increased collaboration on project and resource prioritization across the organization 

  • Ability to problem solve and find common ground in stakeholder differences 

  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams (e.g. publishers, product owners, marketing, sales and customer support) to ensure all aspects of a product launch are accounted for 

  • Manage multiple integrated projects and dependencies concurrently  

  • Work with vendors as needed 

Qualifications: 

  • Minimum of 10 years program management experience 

  • Experience with “scrum of scrums” and running Agile at large organizations 

  • Strong knowledge of Scrum theory, rules, and practices 

  • Experience rolling out and implementing new process, especially in Agile/Scrum methodology 

  • Knowledge about tasks, backlog tracing, burndown metrics, velocity, user stories, etc 

  • Ability to track and remove impediments 

  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills  

  • Strong organizational skills including attention to detail and multi-tasking skills  

  • Strong knowledge of Jira, Microsoft Office, Project Professional, Smart Sheet, and/or equivalents 

  • Possesses conflict resolution ability 

  • Expert in writing contracts, estimation, and planning 

  • Experience creating useful, reliable and practical project plans 

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification and Certified Scrum Master (CSM) 

  • Experience reporting project status to senior management 

  • Must demonstrate experience in managing and guiding large enterprise level digital projects from conception to launch 

  • Extensive experience working with developers, product managers, marketing and sales teams 

  • Knowledge of education technology (K-12) industry technology trends, user experience (educators, students, and administrators), and classroom needs 

 

Education: Must have a bachelor’s degree  

Physical Requirements

  • Might be in a stationary position for a considerable time (sitting and/or standing).
  • The person in this position needs to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
  • Must be able to collaborate with colleagues via face to face, conference calls, and online meetings.
