The VP Digital Development & Strategy is responsible for developing and executing Heinemann's digital strategy. Leveraging Heinemann's wide-ranging content, social media audience, delivery channels, e-commerce technologies and internal expertise this role will develop new channels and business models, as well as innovative products and services. The ideal candidate will build relationships with internal and external stakeholders across all levels and functions of the organization to effectively seek project support and manage conflict.

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • People Manager
    • Enable and empower people to do their best work in an environment that encourages collaboration and innovation and fosters development and learning.
    • Translate the company’s strategic vision, align group’s work, and help individuals understand their impact on HMH’s success.
    • Assess direct reports’ performance and partner on career planning.
    • Collaborate and be a catalyst, breaking down complex problems into simple solutions and leading through change.
  • Oversee long-term digital strategies and drive change across the organization
  • Communicate digital strategy to authors, HMH management and internal staff
  • Keep pace with changing technology within the publishing industry and more broadly across industry sectors
  • Develop new revenue streams, achieve higher efficiency, and enable faster time to market
    • Achieve higher efficiency, by improving and building upon present program/product infrastructure, support and development process/practices for product.
    • Enable faster time to market by building with ‘scalability’ in mind and having processes for ensuring that we are developing what is needed/wanted (Agile /Kanban process, vendor development, outsourcing vs internal development)
  • Profit and loss responsibilities

 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field

 

Experience in:

  • Developing new channels and business models, and products and services.
  • Building relationships and using influence with variety of technical, business and executive personnel
  • Developing processes to develop, maintain and retire product.
  • Understanding  of and/or experience with  Business Decisions, ROI, Supplemental Product, Competitive Analysis
  • Managing the software development life cycle (with both internal and external teams)
  • Using customer analytics to make product decisions
  • User research and testing methodologies
  • Explaining complex market problems to technical product development teams
  • Previous experience developing Product Development Roadmaps that are informed by a global plan, eliminate retro-fitting, and result in product builds that can be leveraged for other products/uses

 

Knowledge and Skills

  • E-commerce and transactional expertise with focus on driving traffic, conversion and revenue
  • Online marketing and social media expertise with emphasis on driving brand awareness, brand activation and consumer engagement
  • Transformative product and technology capabilities
  • Digital Strategic Planning. Examples of 5 year plans produced and their results, hurdles experienced and overcome, outlook on Publishing technology (CMS, LMS, platform choices, mobile app management)

 

Physical Requirements

  • Might be in a stationary position for a considerable time (sitting and/or standing).
  • The person in this position needs to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
  • Must be able to collaborate with colleagues via face to face, conference calls, and online meetings.
