What you’ll do:

The Operations Procurement Lead is accountable for the day-to-day procurement operations for physical goods supporting HMH Connected Programs.   This key role requires knowledge in procurement process standards to ensure Connected products are available to meet established market ready dates.  This role will work to influence best practices and provide insightful data analysis to support organizational primary objectives. This role will require a seasoned leader who is able to mentor team members to achieving the overall departmental goals. 


Day-to-day accountability for Operations Procurement Lead:

  • Ensure day-to-day financial integrity of department with oversight and management of Accounts Payable Process
    • Review and approve Prep Statement
    • Review and approve non PO Invoices
    • Manage process to keep Supplier Statements current
  • Conduct day-to-day communication, negotiation, and rebalancing of work via efforts with Strategic Sourcing and Supply Planners to determine best manufacturing methods for products ensuring maximization of total cost of ownership on all products while avoiding obsolescence.
  • Manage day-to-day operations of Company Owned Inventory at suppliers (non-paper)
    • Component Inventory
    • HMH owned at 3rd Party 


Lead and influence day-to-day process, measurement reporting and analytics associated with Planning and Procurement goals and objectives.

  • Drive decision making that accounts for total cost of ownership and optimal product availability
  • Manage the analysis and review of Transportation Capacity Outlook
  • Manage Supplier Schedule Data, communicate critical product schedule dates to supplier panel and anticipate risk and escalate as appropriate. 


Education Level and or relevant experience


  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Procurement, Finance/Accounting, Information Technology, or related field
  • 2+ years of demonstrated experience as a supervisor or manager in related industry
  • Strong people influence, communication, organizational, and managerial skills and experience working with large cross functional, multifaceted teams and geographically diverse
  • Strategic thinking and ability to align department goals with corporate strategies
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully lead process improvement initiatives, to develop and motivate staff to implement change, and to problem solve effectively
  • Ability to prioritize, delegate and oversee schedules as necessary to ensure the company is in compliance with legal obligations and to ensure timely, efficient completion of projects
  • Experience working with executives at VP and above
  • Advanced computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)



  • Master’s Degree (MBA, Finance, Accounting, Information Technology, or Procurement)


Knowledge and skills (general and technical)

  • Experience with sourcing processes and tools. Ability to perform spend analytics, and develop recommendations
  • Solid understanding of procurement best practices
  • Ability to use the most judicious purchasing approaches and strategies, engaging all stakeholders and ensuring procurement is bringing in the right suppliers at the right time.
  • Current with new technologies, solutions and manners to meet business requirements
  • Applies knowledge and understanding of business processes to streamline efficiency and maximize results of the overall work product
  • Builds and maintains lasting cooperative partnerships with internal and external stakeholders and leverages relationships to meet division/organizational objectives
  • Effectively expresses ideas verbally and/or in writing, in individual or group situations.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Project Management
  • Must be able to collaborate with colleagues remotely
