Senior Product Manager, Core K-12 Math
The Core K-12 Math team at HMH is seeking an experienced Senior Product Manager to join our dynamic team. The Senior Product Manager will primarily be responsible for driving our state-related strategy for our core K-12 math portfolio.
The Senior Product Manager is a vital resource within the company and is responsible for defining key market problems to solve to drive customer success, achieve product-market fit, and deliver on business goals. The Core K-12 Math Senior Product Manager oversees Math Core product line with an emphasis on strategic growth/profitability, iterative product enhancement, and life cycle management. Primary responsibilities include product line planning; guiding editorial and technology development of superior, differentiated product; advocating customer/sales needs in the product development process; guiding market research activities; and taking a portfolio view of life cycle management.
Additional responsibilities include participating in creation of business cases, product launch and maintenance activities, and competitive selling support.
The successful Core K-12 Math Senior Product Manager will be just as comfortable discussing priorities on a backlog as they are leading product presentations for customers. Their flexibility and connectedness are essential to managing numerous competing workstreams and stakeholders. Most importantly, Senior Product Managers are the voice of the customer and bring a combination of qualitative and quantitative data sets to support prioritization between and within product development.
Primary Responsibilities:
Business Strategy and Planning
- Drive offering strategy and vision to deliver high quality solutions that meet customer needs and company goals
- Leverage research (competition, academic, customer, etc.) and data (usage, efficacy, etc.) to define strategic vision in partnership with VP, Math Product Management.
- Develop business plans and product briefs that meet corporate teacher success goals and achieve market share growth
- Oversee cross-functional teams to execute against plans
- Manage product lifecycle including initial conceptualization, development, launch, maintenance and sunsetting products
- Liaise between internal stakeholder teams (e.g. engineering, development, marketing, research, QA, sales, etc.) to collect and synthesize feedback, manage/align project schedules, and motivate
- Make recommendations for revisions of and extensions for existing solutions, including product customization, new components, and pricing models
- Research and report on market trends, competition, and the customer problem space to stakeholders as directed
Product Life Cycle Management
- Analyze financial performance of an assigned product, including investment, revenue, and profitability
- Analyze and evaluate market performance and product positioning of an assigned product
- Implement tasks in the product launch and sunset process
Marketing Strategy
- Work with Product Marketing on go-to-market strategy
- Identify product positioning strategies. Partner with Product Marketing and Sales to ensure proper competitive positioning for product or solution.
Product Evangelist
- Serve as product expert across the HMH organization
- Provide support for the sales and services enablement process
- Maintain strong, ongoing channels of communication with sales force and other functional areas within Services and across the company
What You’ll Need:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum of 7 years of experience delivering products in K-12 education with a proven track record of success
- Deep K-12 math expertise
- A demonstrated record of partnering with teams across an organization and influencing to achieve business results across multiple teams.
- Business-savvy and strategic, and can deftly manage cross-organizational projects that require a sophisticated level of sensitivity and excellent judgement
- A natural collaborator, equally comfortable talking tech with developers, user experience with designers, copy and positioning with product marketers, numbers with finance, and strategy with executive leadership
- Knowledge of the K12 Education Market
- Fluent use of applications and collaboration tools such as Smartsheet, Miro, Atlassian Jira/Confluence, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, demonstrating an ability to communicate clearly to all stakeholders
- Highly organized
Nice to Have:
- MBA or Masters -preferably in education or in business management/marketing
- HMH Product knowledge
Physical Requirements
- Might be in a stationary position for a considerable time (sitting and/or standing).
- Constantly operates a computer.
- Must be able to collaborate with colleagues via face to face, conference calls, and online meetings.
- Availability to travel: less than 10% of the time
Salary: $95,000 - $110,000
