We’re looking for a candidate who will be an energizing agent of change and shepherd of on-going excellence in our software engineering department.  They will identify and lead appropriate new department-wide operational initiatives while working collaboratively with other leaders to overcome any obstacles. They will also be a steady driver of every day excellence in our on-going operations.


This person will work closely with and report to the Chief Engineering officer and will draw on a deep combination of software engineering, agile management, and executive leadership skills and experiences to show good judgement in proposing and managing initiatives, building coalitions of collaboration and trust, and effectively communicating to a wide range of audiences.


The successful candidate will drive automated measurement and steady achievement and improvement of engineering performance against goals and metrics. They will prepare and deliver regular executive reports and presentations providing clear insight into on-going operations and opportunities for improvement. This person will partner with Finance to create departmental budgets and track adherence to those budgets and they will partner with HR to drive continuous learning, evaluation, and improvement of processes around hiring, onboarding, and talent management.


Additionally, the ideal candidate will plan and manage senior staff meetings, facilitate bimonthly product roadmap planning and prepare the strategy for capturing, organizing, and sharing information within the Engineering organization along with appropriate partners. 


Experience Needed?

  • A Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, finance, or related discipline; MBA advantageous
  • Experience working in a software engineering or business environment, with significant engineering, project management, or business leadership responsibility.
  • Experience with agile product development practices
  • A strong analytical mind and excellent presentation skills
  • The ability to take dynamically changing circumstances, priorities, and assignments in stride, with minimal supervision sometimes under strict deadlines.
  • The ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and diplomatically at all levels of the organization, ranging from individual contributor engineers to the CEO, with some of the information being confidential or sensitive.
  • Adeptness at developing and fostering strong business relationships with colleagues within the department and across the company, in multiple locations and time zones with a willingness to travel.


Physical Requirements:

  • Might be in a stationary position for a considerable time (sitting and/or standing).
  • The person in this position needs to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
  • Must be able to collaborate with colleagues via face to face, conference calls, and online meetings.
