The Content Writer plays a pivotal role in driving revenue growth by drafting personalized, persuasive proposal narratives that strategically position HMH programs and services in response to requests for proposals, bids, and rubrics issued by schools, districts, and states.

 

A part of the RFP, Bids & Contracts team, the Content Writer serves as the team’s content expert on selected programs, works with product management and curriculum design teams to maintain expertise, and is responsible for creating and/or updating narratives to reflect changes to content, selling points, competition, and pricing models This person works with sales and product management and is instrumental in strategic decision-making and positioning of responses.

 

The Content Writer must juggle multiple proposals and tight deadlines. Daily activities include proposals launch calls, cross-company collaboration, independent research, continuous program and services learning, and proposal writing.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

 

  1. Serve as the team’s content expert on selected programs, work with product management and curriculum design teams to maintain expertise, and create and/or update narratives to reflect changes to content, selling points, competition, and pricing models.
  2. Contribute to strategic decision-making and positioning using SFDC data, customer details, customer needs and preferences, and information-gathering on factors such as budget, history, weighted items, etc. Actively participate in RFX discussion calls to drive an understanding of an RFX’s intent, key criteria, and deliverables among all participants
  3. Write full proposal narratives and responses for primary programs. Write or contribute to proposal narratives and responses for secondary programs and boilerplate when needed.
  4. Share Primary program updates/changes, distribute revised narrative to the team. Work with content repository team liaison to maintain current content
  5. Work with team to improve processes and systems that create a culture of collaboration and increase engagement across the team..

 

What You Will Need to be Successful:

  • Professional writing experience, including writing original narratives and content summaries in a tailored, compelling, and persuasive manner.
  • Minimum of three years of experience teaching core curriculum (ELA, mathematics, science, or social studies) in the K–12 public school environment. Experience must be in-person, not virtual.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail/consistency.
  • Bachelor's degree required; master’s degree preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively with subject-matter experts and participants from across the company.
  • Ability to work independently and be successful in a virtual work environment.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office Suite. 

Nice to Have:

  • Experience writing descriptive responses to RFPs issued by school districts.
  • Master's degree in a field related to the position.
  • Experience teaching multiple subjects.
  • Knowledge of curricula, educational theory and trends, national and state standards, proposal automation systems, Chicago Manual of Style, and devices used in educational environments.

 

Physical Requirements:

 

  • Might be in a stationary position for a considerable time (sitting and/or standing) for 4+ hours.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other productivity machinery, such as online platforms, printers, and applications.
  • Must be able to collaborate with colleagues predominantly via conference calls and online meetings.
  • Must be able to travel up to 10% of the time.

Benefits and Salary Range:

 

Salary Range - $60,000 to $70,000. Our salary ranges are based on national averages. We have wide ranges so we can be flexible and determine compensation based on a number of factors including the candidate’s skills, experience, education, and location
