Location notes: Hybrid (Dublin) - This position offers remote flexibility with expectations of travel to Dublin based office less than 50% of the time.


The Architecture Team at HMHCO, part of Technology Solutions Group (TSG), is focused on architecting HMH’s new future services ecosystem to meet the company’s digital first strategy.


We are looking for a Senior Technical Architect with a proven track assessing business capabilities, non-functional system requirements, executing gap analysis exercises, and assessing tools and technology. This exciting opportunity will involve working alongside software engineers to redesign core services in line with best-in-class design principles and industry standards. You will architect solid technical solutions by following industry standards and best practices in the Education space.


  • You have strong experience in software development, preferably having used more than one technology stack (Java, .NET, Python, etc).
  • You have a good understanding of the possibilities offered by cloud services (IaaS and PaaS).
  • You are adept at developing solutions and providing detailed comparative analysis of them.
  • You enthusiastically research emerging technologies and are pro-active about bringing them to the team.



  • Create roadmaps based on business requirements, capacity, efficiency, and ecosystem security
  • Translate business requirements into diagrams, domain models, well-formed technical requirements, and codified cloud infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with software programmers and engineers in terms of designing spring boot-based services, application integrations, and relational database design and deployments.
  • Provide domain knowledge leadership across multiple development teams.
  • Develop best practices and define patterns.
  • Ensure the quality and reliability of production systems, design, and migrate applications, plan courses of action, and develop both tactical and strategic plans.
  • Respond to technical issues in a professional and timely manner.
  • Communicate strategies and designs to all audiences: Development teams, Infrastructure teams, and management. 


Skills and Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in software development, preferably using at least two different technology stacks (Java, .NET, Python, etc.)
  • Experience in designing and applying Enterprise Integration patterns (event/message, request/response, batch) including implementing middleware technologies.
  • Knowledge of business ecosystems, SaaS, infrastructure as a service (IaaS), platform as a service (PaaS), SOA, APIs, open data, microservices, event-driven IT and predictive analytics.
  • Experience developing and monitoring delivery of efficient and effective solutions to diverse and complex business problems.
  • Familiarity with information management practices, system development life cycle management, IT services management, agile and lean methodologies, infrastructure and operations, and EA and ITIL frameworks.
  • Knowledge of all components of holistic enterprise architecture.
  • Familiarity with basic graphical modelling approaches, tools and model repositories.
  • Detailed oriented and ability to learn and work independently.
  • Analytical and proactive problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to work in a multi-disciplinary and fast-paced environment.
  • Be ready to take initiative with continuous improvement mind-set.
  • Comprehensive experience and knowledge of APIs, UIs, infrastructure, data architecture, security, and emerging technologies.
  • Expert understanding of the agile development process and DevOps practices.


Education Requirements

  • A BS/MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a STEM field or equivalent experience.


Physical Requirements:

  • Might be in a stationary position for a considerable time (sitting and/or standing).
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
  • Must be able to collaborate with colleagues via face to face, conference calls, and online meetings.
  • Ability to work in cross-functional teams and as well as work independently.
