The Opportunity

At HMH we have interesting problems to solve using machine learning such as how students interaction with content impact their outcomes and being able to provide data driven guidance to help our students maximize their potential. Our Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) is the heart of this system.



Duties & Responsibilities

  • You will work closely with our key stakeholders, the data science team, learning science team and product teams to develop our data warehousing and analytics capabilities, delivering value across the enterprise
  • You will have the opportunity to build a warehouse from the ground up so you will design and incrementally implement an appropriate EDW schema
  • You will have experience of ETL frameworks in the context of EDW population.
  • Willing to take ownership and stand by EDW decisions
  • Work independently and as part of a software development team taking responsibility for solving big challenges
  • Capable of moving from prototype to production, and taking responsibility for the full lifecycle of a component
  • Applying  thought leadership to improving  technology  practices,  standards and methodologies within HMH


Knowledge & Experience

  • Expert in Data Warehousing concepts and best practices is essential
  • Expert in building and maintaining an EDW using AWS Redshift is essential
  • Experience with Multitenant EDWs
  • Experience with AWS and Redshift security models in the context of running an AWS Redshift cluster
  • Experience of ETL frameworks in the context of EDW population
  • Experience with provisioning clusters to match projected demand
  • Experience working with a team on a large project, know how to ship
  • 8 years of experience and a bachelor's degree in computer science or related field is preferred
