The objective of the Sales Insight and Strategy Manager is to help lead efforts to improve Sales and Sales operations through data analysis and working with various teams to project manage process improvement opportunities. This person will work closely with the VP of Business Insights and Strategy and other leaders in the organization to identify opportunities for improvement and make achievable recommendation plans. In addition, this person will collaborate with other team members in Sales, Sales Operations and other parts of the organization to understand not only our business model, but provide input into future strategic planning, recommend analyses that can highlight sales opportunity, and execute on analyses to drive business decisions.  This position will afford the candidate with exciting opportunities to work on many strategic projects requiring insights into data with many different divisions within the organization. The role will also present advancement opportunities for the candidate within the organization.

This role requires functional expertise in relevant fields (data analysis, market analytics, strategy development, program management) as well as the personality fit to work with a varied team members and sales team stakeholders (e.g. being resourceful, solutions-oriented, collaborative). The position reports to the VP of Sales Insights & Operations Strategy.

***This position can be based in Itasca, IL, or other HMH offices in the Chicago area.

RESPONSIBILITIES

 30%:

  • Research and understand the data relevant to the education market as well learn how to access and use internal data points for analysis.
  • Conduct primary or secondary research related to various Sales initiatives and prepare related analysis/reports regarding feasibility and resulting implications.
  • Take an active role in planning and developing new analyses based on business questions posed by Sales leaders and the organization.
  • Be prepared to explain analysis to Sales team and present findings in an easy to understand manner.
  • Be actively engaged in learning about the educational market, HMH products/solutions and finding relevant insights.

20%:

  • Contribute to and/or lead the creation of deliverables including preparing various and wide-ranging reports pertaining to sales strategy or other relevant topics.
  • Present findings and analysis in PPT and be able to talk through results from an analytics standpoint as well as a business perspective.

25%:

  • Participate in project management role capacity along with the VP of Business Insights and Strategy for Sales related process improvement projects to ensure that key activities are accomplished, ownership of roles are understood, and timelines are met
  • Assist in the development or implementation of appropriate tools to monitor progress, track performance, and drive results of improvement projects

15%

  • Support Sales Leadership with any ad hoc requests related to uncovering market opportunity (eg. competitive landscape, educational trends that can drive sales).

10%

  • Collaborate with other Sales Operations team members to share best practices on processes, analyses, data, and reports.
  • Provide innovative ideas on better ways to view existing analysis conducted by the overall team.
  • Ability to leverage new business intelligence/ analytics tools and internal CRM tool (i.e. Salesforce) in analysis.
  • Balance multiple priorities, utilize internal and external team resources to achieve objectives and be flexible enough to balance both leadership and supporting roles to ensure goals are met.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, MBA preferred 
  • 4 – 5+ years working experience in a data centric and project management role.
  • Experience analyzing and reporting data in order to identify issues, trends, or exceptions to drive improvement and support business decisions
  • Proficient with MS Office; advanced level skills with Excel and Power Point

Preferred Knowledge and Skills

  • Previous management consulting or corporate planning strategy experience strongly preferred
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to organize complex information in a concise and user-friendly way
  • Has time management skills such as prioritizing/organizing team goals/tasks and meeting deadlines of multiple projects with varying completion dates
  • Strong interpersonal skill to work with individuals across the organization and at different levels
  • Ability and willingness to learn and use additional business analytics tools as needed (e.g. Wave, Tableau, etc)

Physical Requirements:

  • Might be in a stationary position for a considerable time (sitting and/or standing).
  • The person in this position needs to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
  • Must be able to collaborate with colleagues via face to face, conference calls, and online meetings.

  • Approximately 10%
