What you’ll do:

 

Reporting to the SVP of Product Management, the Director of Product Management for MAP Growth Literacy is a senior product leader responsible for setting and executing the product vision, strategy, and commercial success of NWEA’s literacy assessment solutions. This role combines strong commercial orientation, deep understanding of literacy assessment and instruction, and people leadership to drive sustainable growth, market relevance, and customer impact.

 

This leader owns the strategy for MAP Growth literary assessments and related literacy needs, translating research-based literacy science, customer needs, and market dynamics into a compelling product roadmap that delivers measurable outcomes for students and strong financial performance for the business. The role manages and develops a team of product management direct reports and partners closely with Research, Engineering, Sales, Marketing, Customer Success, and external experts across literacy.

 

Primary Accountabilities for this role include:

 

  1. Product Strategy & Vision (20%)
    • Own and evolve the product vision, strategy and roadmap for MAP Growth literacy solutions by leveraging customer insights, market demand, industry trends, competitive dynamics and organization objectives.
    • Identify portfolio investment opportunities across the suite of NWEA and HMH solutions in support of enterprise integration strategies.
    • Make clear, data-informed tradeoff decisions across features, investments, and timelines to ensure focus on measurable literacy outcomes.
  2. Commercial & P&L Ownership (30%)
    • Own revenue growth, margin performance, and portfolio health ensuring strong alignment between product investments and business outcomes.
    • Partner with Product, Sales, Finance, and Product Marketing on pricing and growth strategies.
    • Develop business cases and monitor commercial performance metrics.
  3. Product Leadership & Execution Excellence (20%)
    • Establish clear standards for product discovery, prioritization, and delivery to ensure work is focused on the highest-impact opportunities.
    • Drive disciplined roadmap execution with measurable outcomes, balancing innovation, usability, and psychometric rigor in partnership with Research and Engineering.
    • Ensure product decisions are grounded in data, user insights, and clear success metrics.
  4. People Leadership (20%)
    • Lead, hire, mentor and inspire the product team supporting their success as individuals and as a collective high performing team. 
    • Set clear objectives and foster a collaborative environment to ensure the team’s success in delivering high-quality products.
  5. Cross-Functional Leadership & Market Engagement (10%)
    • Nurture robust relationships with stakeholders with the ability to influence cross-functionally and align teams around priorities and tradeoff decisions.
    • Collaborate with Product Marketing on go-to-market strategy and launch activities.
    • Collaborate with Product leaders across HMH and NWEA to ensure alignment and integration across the broader assessment ecosystem.
    • Serve as product SME internally and externally.

 

 

What you’ll need:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 7–10 years product management experience
  • 3+ years leading a product team
  • Strong commercial orientation with proven ability to successfully manage product line financial outcomes.
  • Proven ability to define, communicate, and deliver product roadmaps through cross-functional teams while managing competing priorities.
  • Experience in the education assessment sector with demonstrated depth in literacy assessment and/or literacy instruction.
  • Ability to anticipate and make timely decisions that result in effective products, programs, scalable processes, and business outcomes.
  • Adept in professionally partnering with customers, colleagues, and industry experts to develop and maintain long-term supportive relationships.
  • Demonstrates clear, concise, and compelling communication ability, combined with a proven track record of negotiating favorable outcomes among stakeholders to complex problems and scenarios.

Preferred but not necessary:

  • Pragmatic product marketing certification, or similar
  • Experience leading product migration or product integration projects

Benefits and Salary Range

 

Salary Range - $110,000 to $145,000.  Our salary ranges are based on national averages.  We have wide ranges so we can be flexible and determine compensation based on a number of factors including the candidate’s skills, experience, education, and location.
