Publishing Review Services (PRS) provides copyediting, proofreading, and other reviews that ensure that HMH content adheres to required standards for language, style, and publishing based on best practices. Our mission is to optimize HMH content by ensuring clarity and eliminating errors and inconsistencies.

 

The Lead Publishing Review Specialist optimizes HMH content by performing a number of important quality-focused responsibilities, described below. THIS SPECIFIC Lead Publishing Review Specialist position emphasizes project planning, project startup, vendor onboarding, and project management of quality review services.  

 

Project and Resource Management: 

  • Efficiently and effectively plans, implements, and delivers assigned projects while meeting expected content quality assurance standards within required time frames and budgets.
  • Adheres to project schedules and established processes, monitoring and communicating status, troubleshooting issues, managing risk, taking appropriate actions based on sound decision-making, and demonstrating critical thinking skills.
  • Leads functional teams or projects as required, determining resource needs and training and managing internal and external resources.
  • Contributes to internal resource planning.

 

Operational Efficiency: 

  • Collaborates across functional groups to develop and implement optimal strategies for delivery of PRS project requirements.
  • Ensures quality standards for outside vendors and internal teams are defined, well-articulated, delivered and adhered to. Partner with Shared Services teams and with Strategic Sourcing to define and direct vendor training.
  • Holds project retrospectives within PRS to identify and document successes and/or gaps in procedures.
  • Monitors processes and procedures to ensure efficiency and efficacy; escalates issues or problems; works across PRS to provide valid solutions where possible.
  • Leverages expertise and data-driven KPIs to recommend courses of action that support continuous improvement.

 

Content Quality Assurance: 

  • Is responsible for ensuring that all project deliverables meet or exceed established standards and specifications for content language, consistency, style, and accuracy and for publishing and production quality.
  • Understands, recommends, and implements best practices for copyediting, proofreading, fact checking, problem solving, indexing, and/or other content quality assurance reviews related to print and/or digital final text and final content presentation.
  • Understands products, processes, workflows, and procedures. Works in accordance with acceptable operating procedures.
  • Creates, updates, and communicates content quality assurance plans and procedures.

 

Collaboration and Customer Focus: 

  • Builds mutually beneficial, long-term personal relationships with peers, colleagues, man­­­agement, other HMH groups, and external customers through effective use of written and oral communication.
  • Creates customer-focused practices, proactively anticipating customer issues to effectively and efficiently solve problems and responding promptly and accurately to customers’ requests.

 

Other: 

  • Stays up to date with industry standards, current information industry processes and technologies.
  • Performs any and all tasks required to support department and company goals

Requirements:

  • BS/BA in related discipline-preferred
  • 10 or more years related industry experience
  • Possesses a compelling “track record” of accomplishing successful, complex assignments
  • 5 years of project management experience
  • 5 years of print and/or digital production or publishing experience
  • Familiarity with editorial and English-language conventions
  • Must have excellent grasp of grammar.
  • Must have exceptional oral and written communication skills.  Must be able to frame an issue concisely through effective presentations and messaging. Must be able to tailor message for audience as appropriate.
  • Must be an exceptional and proven leader who is able to motivate diverse groups and lead positively and proactively in a changing environment with evolving processes.
  • Must have exceptional project management skills exhibited by leading multiple projects simultaneously and prioritizing in a time-sensitive, fast-paced environment. Must demonstrate exceptional attention to detail, organization, accuracy, and outstanding follow-up skills. Must drive on-time, high-quality results.
  • Must be able to use critical thinking to identify, understand, and articulate problems and risks as well as analyze problems and opportunities in order to reach decisions. Must be able to mobilize stakeholders to determine a course of action and strategize solutions.
  • Must be able to build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners and customers. Must be able to exercise sound judgment to identify, respond to, and quickly escalate critical issues to managers in a professional manner. Must be quick to share his or her knowledge and experience, as well as seek feedback.
  • Must be proficient in creating and managing project budgets and be experienced in quantifying success and measuring results.
  • Must be proficient with standard MS Office applications; and must have a general knowledge of Adobe publishing solutions such as Photoshop and Acrobat.
  • Must have extensive knowledge of print and/or digital production and publishing processes.
  • Must be able to assume responsibility/accountability for delivering high-quality content quality assurance projects on time and on budget.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of print and/or digital production and publishing processes.

 

PRS is part of a dynamic Shared Services organization supporting K-12, Marketing, Professional Services, and other HMH business areas.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Might be in a stationary position for a considerable time (sitting and/or standing).
• The person in this position needs to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
• Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
• Must be able to collaborate with colleagues via face to face, conference calls, and online meetings.
