Day in the Life

Are you energetic, innovative, and ready to make an impact in the highly competitive and evolving educational technology market? This role is a critical team player, collaborating on a high performing cross functional team, developing creative digital solutions that engage, surprise and delight users of all ages. As a Senior Front-End Designer, you will draw upon user data, research, and team input to generate interaction concepts that enable seamless and relevant experiences for HMH users. Working with Product Designers, UX/IxD Designers, and Engineers, you will facilitate and execute in-browser prototypes and final user facing design elements and components with a strong emphasis on the end-user experience.



Design Excellence:

  • Collaborate with our in-house design studio, product management, content, production, and engineering teams to define and develop innovative solutions for product direction, visuals, and experience.
  • Produce rapid in-browser prototypes, mock-ups and any other relevant visual output for quick review and iteration.
  • Design and develop reusable HTML patterns and components, provide design templates and usage guidelines and technical documentation
  • Collaborate with Engineers and the Digital Production team on the deployment of production ready code elements and components.

Cross-functional Collaboration:

  • Represent, collaborate and ensure Product Experience Design’s important role in building the next generation of Education Technology
  • Collaborate cross functionally to establish best practices in UI Design methodology and validation through iterative testing to the benefit of the end user experience
  • Other duties, as assigned


What You Need to be Successful (Required to perform this role)

  • Bachelor's Degree in design or design-related discipline (web development, user-centered design, visual design, IxD, etc.)
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in web development
  • Portfolio demonstrating examples of modern web design and an understanding of UI principles and interaction design
  • Knowledge and Skills: 
    • Expertise in HTML, CSS, and SASS for rapid prototyping and product development. Familiarity with CSS animations.
    • Knowledge of Enterprise Design Systems development and implementation including design tokens configuration and best practices
    • Familiarity in visual design and wire-framing tools such as Figma, Sketch, Axure, and Zeplin etc.
    • Familiarity in creating wireframes, user flows, process flows and site maps, etc.
    • Familiarity with creating prototypes using vanilla JavaScript 
    • Knowledge of React and creating components in Storybook
    • Up-to-date with the latest UI, HTML, CSS, web component and pattern trends, techniques, and technologies, i.e. Motion design, CSS Grid.
    • Experience with implementation of the latest WCAG Accessibility best practices
    • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum/Kanban development process
    • Capacity to work well with other creative teammates in a collaborate, open, exchange of ideas


Nice to Have (Preferred, but not necessary)

  • Familiarity with user research methodologies and evaluating user feedback
  • Knowledge of CSS 3D, Three.js, Lottie


Physical Requirements

  • Might be in a stationary position for a considerable time (sitting and/or standing).
  • The person in this position needs to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
  • Must be able to collaborate with colleagues via face to face, conference calls, and online meetings.
  • This position cannot be performed in Colorado.


Benefits and Salary Range

Salary Range - $69,600 - $87,000
