What you’ll do:
Working in Core Solutions / Enterprise Development Strategy & Services, the Senior Translations Specialist will be responsible for the following primary duties:
- Provision, oversight, review, and on-schedule delivery of translation and multilingual services for assigned print and digital projects in various disciplines and grade levels.
- Review and edit content in Spanish (or languages other than English) to ensure grammatical correctness, clarity, consistency, accuracy, pedagogical alignment, and adherence to required styles and publishing and production standards.
- Ensure content is appropriate for grade level and culturally aligned with the Company’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives.
- Manage assigned projects through the department on time and on budget, determining resource needs, training and mentoring resources, monitoring status and schedule, and troubleshooting issues.
- Contribute to discussions on team needs and create solutions to improve translation approaches.
- Collaborate extensively with other HMH functional groups to meet internal and external customer requirements and recommend and implement best practices for quality translated products.
Content Quality Assurance (35-55%)
- Ensure all project deliverables meet or exceed established standards and specifications for translated products into Spanish and other languages.
- Recommend and implement best practices for copyediting, proofreading, and other content quality assurance reviews for print and digital content.
- Understand products, processes, workflows, and procedures, working in accordance with acceptable operating procedures.
- Proficient in digital workflows and optimizing translation processes within those workflows.
- Create, update, and communicate content quality assurance plans and procedures, including maintaining and auditing translation assets like glossaries, trackers, and style guides.
- Monitor and assess internal and external resource and process performance, collecting and analyzing metrics, and taking necessary actions to improve product quality.
- Review, edit, and copyedit Spanish and multilingual content across disciplines. Direct translation will be minimal.
Project and Resource Management (30-45%)
- Implement and deliver assigned projects efficiently and effectively, meeting content quality assurance standards within required time frames and budgets.
- Adhere to project schedules and established processes, monitoring and communicating status, troubleshooting issues, managing risk, and demonstrating critical thinking skills.
- Lead small, medium, and large projects as required, training and managing external and internal resources.
- Contribute to internal resource planning.
Collaboration and Customer Focus (10-30%)
- Build mutually beneficial, long-term relationships with peers, colleagues, management, other HMH groups, and external customers through effective communication in both English and Spanish.
- Create customer-focused practices, proactively anticipating customer issues, solving problems, and responding promptly and accurately to customer requests.
- Assist customers in adapting digital and agile workflows for translation and multilingual work.
- Implement translation memory workflows for digital and print development.
Other (10%)
- Stay up to date with industry standards, current information industry processes, and technologies.
- Perform all tasks required to support department and company goals.
Key Stakeholders/Collaborators
- Internal: Work with Strategic Sourcing, Learning Experience Design, Delivery, Marketing, Finance, Digital Production, and other HMH groups to develop products.
- External: Provide oversight for contractors and vendor partners working on project assignments involving content quality assurance services, following up and answering all vendor questions and concerns.
What you’ll need:
- 7+ years of related industry experience with at least 5 years of translation into Spanish and/or foreign language within the education industry.
- At least 3 years of content quality assurance experience in a foreign language.
- At least 2 years of guiding translation programs for K-12 content with project management experience.
- BS or BA in a related discipline
- Experience with digital workflows and optimizing translation processes within those workflows.
- Proficient in using technology software such as Box, SmartSheets, and JIRA for process performance monitoring and data collection.
- Must be proficient with standard MS Office applications; and must have a general knowledge of Adobe publishing solutions.
- Highly collaborative and solution-oriented approach to work.
Benefits and Salary Range:
Salary Range - $63,000 - $67,000
Our salary ranges are based on national averages. We have wide ranges so we can be flexible and determine compensation based on a number of factors including the candidate’s skills, experience, education, and location.
