What you’ll do:
The Director, Insights is responsible for turning HMH’s and NWEA’s evidence into its story. HMH and NWEA generate a wealth of data about its products — why they are reliable, what a strong implementation looks like, what demonstrates impact, and where they stand apart in the market. This role brings that evidence together, helping the organization understand what proof we have, how it supports the brand, and how to package it clearly for the audiences that matter.
Reporting to the Sr. Director, Content Marketing Strategy, the Director builds the connective tissue between the data HMH and NWEA hold and the stories we tell — across brand building, campaigns, reactive communication, and demand generation. This is both a storytelling role and an operational one: the person establishes the infrastructure and relationships that reliably move a proof point from the team that owns the data to the audience that needs the story.
This person is comfortable working with data but does not need to be a data scientist. The core skill is knowing which questions to ask, which evidence matters for the brand, and for which of our target personas, and how to coordinate across the people and teams who own that evidence to get it, package it, and put it to work.
Responsibilities:
Evidence Discovery & Proof Mapping
- Develop a clear, working understanding of what data and evidence HMH and NWEA have that supports the brand story — product reliability, quality-of-implementation indicators, proof of learning outcomes, and competitive differentiation.
- Map evidence across levels: individual product, operational/portfolio, and new-innovation, so the organization knows what proof exists and where.
- Look at our data through a brand-storytelling lens — translating research, efficacy studies, and outcomes data into clear, usable proof points rather than raw statistics.
- Build and maintain a proof-point library or evidence repository that marketers, communicators, and sellers can find and reach for by default.
Evidence Gaps & Internal Coordination
- Identify opportunities to strengthen the evidence base for the stories the brand needs to tell.
- Partner with and influence Research & Efficacy, Product, Data/Analytics, and business unit teams to prioritize the development of high-value evidence and proof points.
- Serve as the connective point between the people who own the data and the people who tell the story, ensuring claims are substantiated, current, and defensible.
Operational Infrastructure
- Design and stand up the operating model that connects the dots internally — from a needed proof point, to the data that answers it, to a finished, on-brand story.
- Establish intake, prioritization, and governance processes so evidence requests and story needs are handled consistently and at pace.
- Create repeatable systems, templates, and workflows that make evidence easy to source, package, and reuse across the organization.
Packaging & Communication
- Package evidence for external communication — customer stories, case studies, campaign proof, sales enablement, and thought leadership.
- Prepare proof points and supporting narrative for reactive communication, ensuring the brand can respond quickly and credibly when data is called for.
- Lead the development of customer stories and case studies at the district, educator, and product-impact level, from sourcing through publication.
Editorial Strategy & Content
- Support the Sr. Director, Content Marketing Strategy in bringing evidence, proof points, and customer insight into HMH’s and NWEA’s editorial and content plans.
- Contribute to gated content planning and development, including white papers, research briefs, and practitioner guides, as needed.
- Partner with the content strategy lead and Growth Marketing to help shape evidence-backed assets that support integrated campaigns.
- Help develop high-impact, long-form brand content that is clear, accurate, useful, and discoverable across search and emerging AI-driven channels.
- Help ensure evidence-based content is accurate, well-supported, and aligned to our brand voice.
What you’ll need:
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, marketing, English, a data- or research-related field, or equivalent work experience.
- 8+ years in editorial, content marketing, communications, or a related evidence-driven storytelling function.
- Comfort working with data and research — able to interpret findings, ask the right questions, and judge what matters for the brand — without needing to be the data expert.
- Demonstrated ability to translate research, data, or technical subject matter into compelling narrative for a non-technical audience.
- Strong operational and organizational instincts — experience building repeatable processes, systems, or workflows that connect teams and information.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills, with a portfolio of long-form, customer story, and thought leadership work.
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills; able to coordinate across functions and drive others to deliver without direct authority.
- Working knowledge of SEO and emerging LLM/AI search optimization practices, and hands-on experience using AI tools in a content workflow.
- K–12 education, EdTech, or mission-driven B2B experience — preferred.
- Familiarity with efficacy research, assessment, or outcomes reporting — preferred.
